Background

Louise Herrington was born in Buckinghamshire and started to study voice in October 1992 through private lessons, and quickly developed into a spinto/dramatic soprano capable of ‘lifting off the roof’ when singing fortissimo. Louise was one of the first intake for the ENO 1 year performance program in 1995. She spent some time at the Mayer-Lissman Opera Centre in London studying the role of Cio-Cio San (Madam Butterfly). She has had the good fortune to be a soloist at many Sunday night concerts at various prestigious venues in the West End including The London Palladium & Royal Albert Hall and being the vocal coach to the main cast in three of these performances.

Roles and excerpt productions performed include: Turandot, First Lady (Magic Flute), Countess (Marriage of Figaro), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Norma, Queen Elizabeth (Gloriana), Marchallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Adelaide Adams (Calamity Jane), Diana (Orpheus in the Underworld 1858 professional edition), and her recent roles of Ulrica in Verdi’s A Masked Ball, Hattie (Kiss Me Kate), Bakers Wide (Into the Woods) and Nettie (Carousel).

During 2008, Louise joined two other women and formed Belle Voix with a view to performing music theatre concerts mixed with operatic classics. The trio specialise in the music theatre genre from composers such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Irvin Berlin, right up to some modern composers such as Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Cy Colman, Maltby & Shire and of course Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Louise has started to concentrate on cabaret material going back to her passion of Musicals having performed at South Hill Park Recital Room in March supporting Helena Blackman, her own cabaret show with Belle Voix at the same venue, and at Norden Farm supporting Hannah Waddingham in December 2009. She was back at Norden Farm in April 2010 for the whole evening of Cabaret with Belle Voix.

Louise is also a guest soloist for the Anthony Witt showcases in Reading, and has also been a soloist for several Opera at Bearwood’s January concerts.
